- The supporters are a unicorn (from the arms of the City of Bristol) and a sea stag (from the arms of the former County of Avon)
- The crest is a flaming firebasket, or cresset, perched on a ship's mainmast and rigging
- The apple trees are from the coat of arms of the Council for National Academic Awards
