Summary

Flag of Tunis under the Hafsids, according to the Catalan Atlas c.1375 created by James Dahl. The flag of Tunisia during the Hafsid dynasty is only shown once in all history. No historical description exists, and all attributed flags to Tunisia during this period are from woefully untrustworthy sources save one; the wondrous Catalan Atlas. The horse was the symbol of Carthage, and featured centrally on their flags, and by placing a horse upon their flags, the Hafsids made the claim of continuity from that classical polity. This is a definite political statement, as a muslim would otherwise avoid placing an animal upon their flag.
